Sofra is the recipe app that knows what's in your kitchen.
Keep every recipe you like in one place, whether it came from a website, a cookbook or a video. Tap the things you usually keep in the kitchen, and Sofra shows you which of those recipes you can cook tonight.
The free plan has no time limit, and Sofra has no ads. We'll only email you about the launch.

How it works
It starts with a recipe you already like.
You probably have more recipes than you'll ever cook: bookmarks, screenshots, a folder of links you meant to try. Add them to Sofra from a link, a photo or pasted text, and it works out which ones you can make with what's in the house.
Saving recipes
The recipe, without the rest of the page.
Share a recipe to Sofra from your browser, or paste the link. You get the ingredients, steps, cook times and photo on one clean page, with a link back to the original. Next time you make it, you won't have to scroll through the whole post to find the oven temperature.
You can also photograph a page of a cookbook, paste in a recipe someone texted you, or upload a voice memo of your dad explaining how he makes his curry. With Premium, it will pull recipes out of YouTube videos too.
It won't read every page perfectly, so you can check the recipe and fix anything before you save it.

Your pantry
A pantry list with nothing to count.
When you first open Sofra, it asks what you usually keep in the kitchen. Tap what you have. Each item is either in stock or needed, so there are no amounts to keep updating, and it assumes you have basics like salt, oil and eggs without being told.
After that, cooking and shopping keep it current. When you finish cooking, Sofra asks what you used up and adds it to your shopping list. When you tap Done Shopping, everything you checked off goes back into the pantry.

What Can I Cook?
Ask what's for dinner.
Sofra checks every recipe you've saved against your pantry and sorts them: what you can make right now, what you're one or two things away from, and what's worth a trip to the store.
If you're missing something, it suggests swaps from what you already have, rated from Excellent to Poor, with how much to use.
There's an optional 6pm reminder, for anyone who usually decides on dinner at 6:15.

Cooking mode
One step at a time, in type you can read from the counter.
Your phone won't dim or lock halfway through, and any step with a time in it gets a timer. Your phone tells you when it's done, even if you've wandered off.
With Premium you can ask the Cooking Companion up to 20 questions each time you cook, like “how thin should I slice the onions?” or “can I make this the day before?”
If the app closes by accident, it picks up where you left off, timers included.

Help with your recipes
Start with a recipe you like.
Save a recipe from a cook or site you trust. Sofra helps you read it, find ingredients and make changes:
Reading a messy web page, photo or video and writing the recipe out cleanly
Matching “2 cloves garlic, minced” to the garlic in your pantry
Suggesting swaps for missing ingredients, with a rating and an amount
Rewriting long steps in plainer words, or moving the chopping to the start
Making changes you ask for, like “make it dairy-free”, and showing you each one first
Review suggested changes before saving them as a new version. Your original stays in your library, so you can switch back.
The AI can misread recipes, miss allergens or suggest unsuitable changes. Check ingredients, amounts and cooking steps before you cook. Follow trusted food safety guidance; suggestions are not medical or nutrition advice.

Before you sign up
Soon. The app is built and in final testing before it goes into the App Store and Google Play. Join the waitlist and we'll email you when it's ready to download.
Sofra is free to download, and the free plan doesn't run out. It covers your whole recipe library, the pantry, the shopping list, ingredient swaps and cooking mode, plus 5 imports and 3 recipe changes every 30 days, and 3 What Can I Cook? checks a day. Premium removes those limits and adds a few extras for $5.99 a month or $47.88 a year.
No. Each ingredient is either in stock or needed, and there's nothing to count. You set it up once by tapping the things you usually have, and it updates as you cook and shop. It also assumes you have basics like salt, oil and eggs. If you skip the pantry altogether, you can still save and cook recipes; What Can I Cook? just has less to go on.
Recipe websites and food blogs, photos of cookbook pages and recipe cards, PDFs, text you paste in, and audio or video files. YouTube videos need Premium. Sofra will try links from Instagram, TikTok and Reddit, but they don't always work, and posts behind a login can't be read. It won't always read a recipe perfectly, so you check it and fix anything before you save.
Only when you ask it to, like “make it vegetarian” or “less spicy”, and you see every change before anything is saved. Your original stays as it was.
The AI can miss allergens and give incorrect advice. Check ingredient labels, cross-contact risks and cooking instructions before using a suggestion. Follow trusted food safety guidance. Recipe changes and nutrition estimates are not medical advice.
Partly. The last 200 recipes you opened, your shopping list and anything you're in the middle of cooking are saved on your phone. Imports, What Can I Cook?, recipe changes and the Cooking Companion need a connection.
Your recipes and pantry are private to your account. Sofra has no ads and we don't sell your data. You can export your recipes (as Markdown or JSON) or delete your account from inside the app whenever you like. Imports, recipe suggestions and cooking help send what they need (recipe text, photos, audio, your pantry and your questions) to AI providers: Anthropic, OpenAI and TypeSafe. The privacy policy says what each one receives.
Not yet. For now, each account has its own recipes and pantry. Shared households are something we'd like to add after launch.
Sofra is made for iPhone and Android phones. It will run on an iPad as an iPhone app, but there's no tablet layout or web version yet.
